Police have seized 10 tonnes of ration rice smuggled in a car in Kanyakumari and arrested the driver.

Kanyakumari Coast Guard police received a tip-off that ration rice was being smuggled from Kanyakumari to Kerala. Following this, a team led by Kanyakumari Coast Guard Police Inspector Naveen and Special Sub-Inspector Thiagarajan conducted an intensive vehicle search in the Lourdumata Street area of Kanyakumari early yesterday morning. Then, they stopped and tested the car that was speeding along that road. During the test, it was found that there were 20 tons of ration rice in small bags in the car. Following this, the police confiscated the ration rice along with the car. Police arrested Pipin from Samiyarmadam who was driving the car in this connection. Later, the arrested driver and the confiscated ration rice were handed over to the District Food Smuggling Prevention Unit police.
