Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari ordered an immediate halt to all construction projects in Puncak Alam, Kuala Selangor, on November 6, 2026, as the state government scrambles to overhaul flood mitigation plans following severe weather disruptions.
The state administration acted through the Mesyuarat Majlis Kerajaan Negeri (MMKN) to pause development in the rapidly growing urban area. Officials intend to thoroughly reassess current flood mitigation strategies and environmental impact assessments (EIA) in response to recurring inundations across the region.
Escalating Climate Pressures Override Conventional Schedules
State leaders acknowledged that repeated downpours have severely disrupted daily commutes and school transport routines, leaving families anxious whenever storms hit. Amirudin Shari noted that conventional scheduling no longer suffices against worsening weather patterns as authorities accelerate both transparency and accountability in addressing the crisis, according to Freemalaysiatoday.

We are facing a climate change crisis, and our flood mitigation efforts must match current challenges to prevent harm to the public,
Amirudin Shari, Selangor Menteri Besar
According to Domainfork, Amirudin warned that administrative delays will no longer be tolerated as authorities race to reinforce vulnerable infrastructure. The decision follows a pattern of rapid policy adjustments in response to climate-related disasters, reflecting a shift toward emergency response over long-term planning.
Evacuees Receive Financial Assistance During Repairs
Displaced residents sheltered in temporary evacuation centers (PPS) will receive financial assistance of up to RM1,500. Funding comes from a combined pool provided by the national disaster management agency (NADMA) and the Selangor state government to ease immediate financial pressures while repair works are carried out.
Amirudin Shari stated that aid of up to RM1,500 from the national disaster management agency and the Selangor state government will be channelled to victims as repair works proceed.
Drainage Overhauls and Early Warning Systems
The drainage and irrigation department (JPS) has been instructed to launch immediate water diversion initiatives across high-risk sectors. State agencies received directives to expedite routine river and drainage maintenance without delay, while transportation authorities deploy advanced early warnings for motorists driving through flood-prone zones.

Early warnings will also be given to road users in areas at risk of rising water levels, while the drainage and irrigation department implements immediate water diversion works. All agencies have been given the collective responsibility to ensure drain and river maintenance works are carried out swiftly and without delay,
Amirudin Shari, Selangor Menteri Besar
Amirudin stressed that public safety remains the top priority, urging agencies to avoid excuses if further flooding occurs while pledging state commitment to accelerated water diversion and drainage maintenance.
