Semenistaja, the second Latvian racket seeded in the qualification with number 29, who occupies the 135th place in the WTA ranking, lost to Boškoviča (WTA 167) in the first round match with 2-6, 6-4, 3-6.
For participating in the tournament, the Latvian tennis player earned two points in the WTA ranking.
In the only match between them in the finals of last year’s International Tennis Federation (ITF) W-60 series tournament in the Czech city of Olomouc, the Latvian tennis player won 6-7 (3:7), 6-3, 6-1.
Semenistaja competed for the second time in the US Open Championship selection competition. A year ago, she suffered a loss in the second round.
Semenistaja has competed in Grand Slam tournament qualification seven times, reaching the third match at last year’s Wimbledon tournament.
A place in the main tournament of the competition is already guaranteed for the first racket of Latvia, Aļona Ostapenko (WTA 10th).
The last “Grand Slam” tournament of the season will start on August 26 in New York.
