Seminar on traditional dances on the theme: “Cyclades: From yesterday to today, similarities and differences” with presentation and teaching by Giorgos Liaros, organized by the Department of Traditional Dances of the Municipality of Ioannina, in the context of the events celebrating the 40th anniversary of its establishment.
The seminar will take place on Saturday, February 24, from 4 pm to 8:30 pm, in the event hall of the 5th Primary School of Ioannina (17 Pindos Women’s Street). Registration 10 euros. Giorgos Liaros comes from Elafonisso, Laconia. The important elements of his career include the collaboration as a dancer and later as a teacher with the professional group of the “Dora Stratou Greek Dance Theater” and with the Dance Group of the Municipality of Paros, which motivated him to engage in the research of music and dance tradition of Paros and the wider Cyclades region.
He was a lecturer in dance seminars in many countries, such as Australia, America, Canada, Holland, Luxembourg, Cyprus, France, but also in many regions throughout Greece. He created the Hellenic Folklore Society of Expression & Culture (ELETEP), of which he is the artistic director and dance teacher, and with which he organized a series of performances-proposals, which met with great success on the stage of the M. Kakogiannis Foundation .
He is the initiator and publisher of the magazine “Chorevo” and has edited the dance part in five shows of L. Liavas “The Salt of the Earth”, concerning the Cyclades and beyond. He has published music and recorded the music and dance tradition of various regions.
