Guatemala, September 14, 2023. The National Secretariat of Science and Technology (Senacyt) celebrates 32 years of its creation as a promoter of the development of Guatemala, putting science, technology and innovation (CTi) at the service of Guatemalan society.

Senacyt is at the service of Guatemalans and makes the National Science and Technology Fund (Fonacyt) available to them to carry out scientific research, receive academic training in STEM careers, receive support for knowledge transfer and scientific-technological-based ventures. Likewise, for the promotion and dissemination of scientific work.

“It is important that citizens understand the power of science, technology and innovation in their daily lives, which are fundamental tools for solving local problems, to raise awareness of the importance of encouraging new generations to focus on scientific areas. and technological. We continue working on the training of human talent, on the generation of research, dissemination and support for scientific-technological-based ventures to put science at the service of society,” highlights Ana Chan, National Secretary of Science and Technology.

Some of the actions and advances that we can highlight from the current administration is the digital transformation that has been implemented in Senacyt, which made it possible to simplify the procedures for registration in the national directories of researchers and DNI and DNE entities and the application to the programs of the National Science and Technology Fund. With this system, Senacyt makes it easier for the population to carry out procedures from the comfort of their homes, which allows compliance with the regulations in digitizing, systematizing and automating procedures to bring the population closer to science, technology and innovation.

This simplification of procedures doubled the number of registrations for 2023. From 2020 to July 2023, 111 projects were signed, with an amount of 21.3 million quetzales from the National Science and Technology Fund.

Committed to supporting efforts to generate knowledge with cultural and linguistic relevance, the current administration of Senacyt implemented the strategy of inclusion of women and indigenous peoples in the CTi, and the dissemination of the CTi with a territorial focus and activities have been developed in the 22 departments with decentralized, interdisciplinary, inter-institutional, intersectoral and transversal work with a gender and self-identification approach so that all Guatemalans know the opportunities to qualify for Fonacyt resources.

In addition, activities focused on motivating and encouraging children and adolescents to study STEM careers by leading robotics workshops and scientific experiments hand in hand with the CTi Heroines, as well as promoting creativity in proposing innovative solutions. for problems in their communities with the youth competitions of the Interdepartmental Innovation Rally my Community 4.0 and the Ondas Program in Guatemala.
