José García Ruminot (RN), president of the Senateannounced that next Tuesday, October 15 The constitutional accusations will be analyzed separately. against the ministers of the Supreme Court, Ángela Vivanco and Sergio Muñoz.
This, after the constitutional accusation was approved by the Chamber of Deputies, an occasion in which pro-government legislators questioned that the libel was voted including both magistrates of the highest court, so several voted against.
One of them was Vlado Mirosevic (PL), who alleged that “unfortunately we are forced to vote in a single act regarding two cases of absolutely different nature,” Since although in the case of Ángela Vivanco he sees an obvious violation of his obligations, in the case of Sergio Muñoz “a tie” was sought, pointing to his work in cases such as Riggs.
García Ruminot explained that the Senate will first summon the accused and the Commission of Deputies designated to formalize and pursue the libel, after this, in a new session the defense of those involved will be heard.
Then, the deputies who make up the Commission in charge of formalizing the accusation intervene, who will have up to 30 minutes to reply or answer the arguments of the defense, to later vote on the constitutional accusation at the beginning of the agenda of the following special session.
The senators must vote separately on each chapter of the accusation against Ángela Vivanco and Sergio Muñoz separately and the approval quorum is 2/3 of the legislators. If the libel is accepted, the accused is removed from office, and will not be able to perform any public function, whether popularly elected or not, for 5 years.
