Senator Daniel Barreda claims he was held incommunicado to avoid attending a session on judicial reform

The senator of Citizen Movement (MC) Daniel Barredawho did not attend the September 10 session in the Senate where the reform to the Judicial Branch was approved, assured that Yes, he was incommunicado in the Campeche Oral Trials Chamber and conditioned not to withdraw or else they would prosecute his father who was being held there.

In a brief message to the media, the senator contradicted the Morena senators’ coordinator, Adán Augusto López Hernández, and the president of the Senate, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, who assured on the day of the session that they spoke with him and that he was not being held.

The senator for Campeche reiterated that on September 10 he received a phone call from his mother, in the early morning, in which she informed him that his father had been taken to a court appearance in the city of Campeche, so at 6 in the morning he took a flight to Mérida and from there he traveled to the city of Campeche.

“At approximately 10:30, I arrived at the courtroom, where my father was being held along with Congressman Paul Arce. For almost 12 hours I was held incommunicado, and under the condition that if I left the premises, my father would be prosecuted.”he denounced.

On September 10, Clemente Castañeda, coordinator of the senators of the Citizen Movement, denounced the illegal detention of Barreda. Adán Augusto López Hernández and then Fernández Noroña immediately denied it, informing the plenary that they had had telephone communication with him and that he was not detained.

However, Daniel Barreda said that during all this time he was unable to speak with any senator from his parliamentary group, or from any other parliamentary group.

“After that time, they let us out around 10 pm, once the Senate of the Republic was about to conclude the vote on the particulars”.
