The day after the senatorial elections organized in 45 constituencies, allowing the renewal of 170 seats at the Luxembourg Palace, find out who are the new elected representatives of the High Assembly. The vote, for which only the “electors” were solicited, did not really upset the balance in the Senate, which remains dominated by the right and the center.
Thus, the Republicans won 47 seats, the PS 33, the UDI 13, the PCF 11, EELV 7 and the RN 3. The parties of the presidential majority – traditionally under-represented in the Senate – are struggling, with 7 elected for Horizons, 4 for Renaissance and 3 for MoDem. The rest of the seats were allocated to “Miscellaneous” lists of all stripes.

As a reminder, senatorial elections take place every three years. They make it possible to renew half of the seats in the Senate. Senators are elected by indirect ballot by “electors” mainly from local elected officials, deputies, outgoing senators, and other elected representatives. The Senate occupies a central place in the French political system, making up the Parliament with the National Assembly.
