NASA invites anyone interested to submit their name to be engraved on spacecraft Europa Clipper, which will travel 1.8 billion miles to explore Jupiter’s European moon.

Accompanying the names will be a piece of libretto, In Praise of Mystery: A Poem for Europa, written by American poet Ada Lemon.

NASA describes the initiative as a “message in a bottle” because it involves sending greetings from Earth into the darker depths of our solar system.

“Message in a Bottle is the perfect convergence of science, art, and technology, and we’re excited to share with the world the opportunity to be a part of the Europa Clipper’s flight,” said Nicola Fox, co-administrator of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate. “I love the idea that our names will travel across our solar system aboard radiation-tolerant spacecraft seeking to unlock the secrets of Jupiter’s frozen moon.”

The Europa Clipper is scheduled to launch from Cape Canaveral, Florida, in October 2024 and take six years to reach its destination.

while going around Jupiter And making several flights over Europe, a set of scientific instruments will collect data about the moon’s subterranean ocean, ice crust and atmosphere.

The main goal of the Europa Clipper mission is to discover if there are any places under the surface of Europa that could support life.

It will also seek to understand the nature of the icy crust and the oceans beneath it, as well as learn more about the moon’s formation and geology.

“The mission’s detailed exploration of Europa will help scientists better understand the astrobiological potential of habitable worlds beyond our planet,” NASA said.
