In its objective of involving the entire civilian population in its space missions, the NASA has once again created a campaign so that anyone who wants to can submit their name in the first mission of the Artemis program, indebted to the famous apollo programand that will once again bring a human presence to the Luna. For free, anyone can register on the web and get their own boarding pass on the ship Orionwhich will launch on the Artemis I mission next June.
So far, almost three million names have already been registered in both the English and Spanish versions – for the first time, NASA has created a platform in Spanish “to further encourage the Spanish-speaking community around the world to participate” , they point out in a statement.
Artemis I will be the first uncrewed test flight of the Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft, and will launch from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. “The flight will pave the way for the arrival of the first woman and the first person of color on the Moon,” they indicate from the US space agency, explaining that the objective of the Artemis program is to establish the continuous human presence on our satellite and that it also serve as a starting point to explore Mars at the end of the next decade.
“All eyes will be on historic Launch Complex 39B as Orion and the Space Launch System lift off for the first time since the modernized Kennedy Space Center of NASA in Florida. The mission will demonstrate our commitment and ability to extend human existence to the Moon and beyond.”
Artemis I It will be the first in a series of increasingly complex missions to develop a long-term human presence on the Moon for decades to come. Artemis II It will include a crew for the first time, which will orbit the Moon, although it will not land. We will have to wait for Artemis III to relive the historical moment of men (and the first woman) stepping on lunar soil, something that will happen from 2025.
