Macky Sall spoke at the opening of the 12th edition of the National Festival of Arts and Cultures (FESNAC), in the presence of the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, who represents Morocco as the guest of honor.

“For this 12th edition of FESNAC, we have as guest of honor the Kingdom of Morocco, a country to which we are linked by a long tradition of multifaceted relations, friendly and fraternal, spiritual, economic and commercial relations,” stressed Macky Sall.

In this regard, the Senegalese President instructed Mr. Bensaid to convey to HM King Mohammed VI his cordial greetings and his thanks for the interest that the Sovereign has shown in strengthening relations between the two countries, particularly in the field of culture.

In this context, he affirmed that the cultural proximity between the two countries was shown through the performances of Moroccan artists from Gnaoua and Aïssawa who performed brilliantly during this opening ceremony organized at the Massène Sène stadium in Fatick.

The opening of this cultural event, which began with the performance of the national anthems of Morocco and Senegal and was chaired by the Head of State, Macky Sall, was marked in particular by the presence of the Prime Minister, Amadou Ba, members of the Senegalese government, ministers representing neighboring countries, representatives of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Dakar, including the Ambassador of HM the King, Hassan Naciri, and members of the Moroccan delegation accompanying Mr. Bensaid, as well as the Director General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), Salem Ibn Mohamed Al Malik.

The FESNAC, established since 1996, was a strong recommendation of the conference on cultural convergences within the Senegalese nation held in 1994 in Kaolack, at the initiative of the President of the Republic, Abdou Diouf (1981-2000). The national festival of arts and culture was organized for the first time in Thiès in 1997. It was then held in the regions of Dakar (1999), Ziguinchor (2001 and 2003), Tambacounda (2005), Saint-Louis (2007 and 2012), Louga (2017) and Kolda (2018).
