Senegal-Morocco: the region of Dakhla Oued Eddahhab and the department of Mbour strengthen their cooperation

The MOU was signed by the President of the Dakhla Oued Eddahab Region, Khettat Yenja, and the President of the Mbour Departmental Council, Saliou Samb, in the presence of the Ambassador of HM the King to Senegal, Hassan Naciri and the Ambassador, Director of Partnerships and Economic and Cultural Promotion at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad, Babacar Sané Ba, and members of the delegation of the Dakhla Oued Eddahhab region.

Mbour is located on the Petite-Côte, approximately 67 km south of Dakar and borders the seaside resort of Saly.

The memorandum of understanding, concluded for a period of three years, renewable by tacit agreement, aims to facilitate and intensify cooperation relations between the two parties in specific areas of common interest likely to be of interest to both parties, which may be associated with the implementation of cooperation projects falling within the framework of this Memorandum.

Under this memorandum of understanding, the two parties agree to define and implement coordinated programs of common interests and exchanges aimed at socio-economic and cultural development, the transfer of knowledge and expertise in the areas falling within their prerogatives.

To make this collaboration effective, the signatories of this document have agreed to set up a steering committee composed of representatives from both parties. This committee will be responsible in particular for proposing a program of concrete actions in relation to the needs of both parties.

In a statement to the MAP M24 continuous news channel, at the end of the ceremony, the president of the Dakhla Oued Eddahhab region, Khettat Yenja, indicated that the signing of this memorandum of understanding is part of decentralized cooperation and comes to crown the work carried out in Dakar through the business forum which was organized in collaboration with the Moroccan embassy in Senegal.

“We have signed an agreement with the department of Mbour with which we share several affinities, particularly in the economic sectors that are key to our two regions, namely the sectors of fishing, tourism, education, training and culture,” he said, noting that a steering committee will be appointed to implement the various stages to come to make this agreement a reality.

For his part, the President of the Departmental Council of Mbour, Saliou Samb, said that this is an opportunity to further strengthen the exemplary and age-old relations between Morocco and Senegal, as well as to share experiences and opportunities between the two regions.

This agreement will support the department of Mbour in its progress, he said, also stressing that the said memorandum of understanding will allow cooperation in particular in the area of ​​professional training, and this within the framework of a win-win South-South cooperation.

For his part, the ambassador of HM the King to Senegal, Hassan Naciri stressed, in a statement to M24, that the department of Mbour shares many similarities with the region of Dakhla, indicating that this kind of cooperation exactly reflects the essence of the Royal Vision, a sharing without limits, a sharing of experiences and above all a sharing of perspectives.

The region of Dakhla Oued Eddahhab, thanks to the special care it is always surrounded by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, has today produced an extraordinary model, Mr. Naciri stressed.

The delegation of the Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab region, participating in the “economic tour” of the region in the Senegalese capital, Dakar, held working sessions on Tuesday with officials from the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Dakar and the National Agency for the Promotion of Investments and Major Works APIX. A cooperation agreement was also concluded with the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Saint-Louis (northern Senegal) on the sidelines of this “Economic Tour” in the city of Dakar.

Through this African tour, the Council of the Dakhla Oued Eddahhab region aims to raise awareness of the enormous potential and investment opportunities offered by the region and its strategic position as a link between Morocco and its African depth.

After Dakar, the Dakhla Oued Eddahhab region is planning an economic tour in the city of Abidjan, Ivory Coast, from May 18 to 20.
