Dagger: Two MPs who assaulted a pregnant MP during a parliamentary event in the African country of Senegal have been sentenced to six months in prison each.

In Senegal, the budget for the justice sector was released last month. Then there was a heated argument between Amy Ndiaye, a pro-ruling MP, and MPs Mamadou Niang and Mazatta Saab. At one point the argument broke out and both of them attacked Amy. They throw chairs at him and try to kick him in the stomach. Amy faints during the fight. Following this, he was taken to the hospital and treated.

In this situation, the court ordered that MPs Mamato Niang and Maschata were sentenced to 6 months in prison and fined 150 dollars each in the case of the attack on MP Amy.

During the trial, both of them did not admit to assaulting Amy. They pleaded not guilty even when video footage was handed over to the court.

The incident sparked a heated debate on assaults on women across the country. It also became a nationwide awareness campaign against domestic violence.
