Senior US official arrives in El Salvador to meet with Nayib Bukele

The Undersecretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs of the United States, Brian Nichols, arrived in El Salvador this Wednesday to hold a meeting with President Nayib Bukele and with various sectors of society.

The United States Embassy in El Salvador reported, through its account on the social network X (formerly Twitter), that it welcomed Nichols, who was previously in Guatemala.

He noted that the undersecretary is accompanied by the deputy administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for Latin America and the Caribbean, Marcela Escobari.

He added that, during his stay in the Central American country, the senior US official “will hold key meetings with the Government, civil society and the private sector.”

According to official information, Nichols will meet with President Bukele and other Salvadoran officials to discuss “inclusive economic prosperity, the rule of law, human rights, migration cooperation and security.”

The undersecretary will visit the Human Rights Institute of the University of Central America and will also meet with business leaders to discuss economic growth and the investment climate in El Salvador.

“Undersecretary Nichols’ visits to Guatemala and El Salvador demonstrate the United States’ strong commitment to promoting democracy, inclusive economic prosperity, collaborative migration management, and protecting human rights in the region,” according to the US Embassy in El Salvador.
