Sensex down 221 points | Sensex ends with 220 points fall

Mumbai: Indian stocks closed lower on Tuesday. The Sensex was down 221 points (0.37 per cent) at 60,286. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty was down 43 points (0.24 per cent) at 17,722.

Stock markets opened flat for the second day of the week. As of 09:23 am, the Sensex was up 69.44 points at 60,576.34. The Nifty rose 25.50 points to 17,790.10 on the NSE.

The US Federal Reserve report and fears over the Reserve Bank of India’s monetary policy statement on Wednesday kept the Indian stock market in a subdued mood today. The Sensex fell as much as 592 points to 60,063 in today’s volatile trade.

The Sensex fell 220.86 points to 60,286.04 by the end of trading hours. At the same time, Nifty fell 43.10 points to 17,721.50 on the National Stock Exchange.

In terms of individual stocks, Kodak Mahindra Bank, IndusInt Bank, Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserv, L&T, State Bank of India, TCS, HDFC Bank and Asian Paints were the gainers. Power Grid Corporation, HDFC, ICICI Bank, Nestle India, Reliance Industries, Tech Mahindra, Axis Bank, Titan Company, NTPC, M&M, Bharti Airtel, Ultra Tech Cements, Wipro, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Sunpharma Industries , ITC and Tata Steel stocks fell.
