Sensex down 51 points- Dinamani

New Delhi/Mumbai: The first trading day of this week, Monday, also ended on a negative note. As a result, the BSE Sensex lost 51 points. The national stock market index Nifty was largely unchanged at 18,497.15, up 0.55 points.

The market opened weak amid subdued global cues. Also, as industrial production and retail inflation data were announced after the market closed, the market was mostly up and down. At one point in the beginning it was down to 500 points. Later, most of the losses were recovered and ended with a slight loss, brokerages said.

Sensex down 51 points: The Sensex, which opened at 61,770.56 in the morning, fell 411.20 points to end at 61,676.15. The Sensex, which later went up to 62,239.42, eventually fell 51 points to close at 62,130.57. 14 stocks gained on Sensex. 16 stocks came on the fall list.

Tata Steel advances: Leading steelmaker Tata Steel rose 1.18 percent and Nestlé 1.16 percent led the gainers. These were followed by Doctor Reddy, Ultra Tech Cement, HDFC Bank, ITC, Axis Bank, Maruti Suzuki, HDFC, Wipro among others which rose between 0.50 and 1 percent.

Asian Paint declines: Meanwhile, popular paint manufacturer Asian Paint led the decliner list with a decline of 1.94 percent. Next, Infosys, Titan, Kotak Bank and others declined between 1.15 and 1.35 per cent. Also, Bharti Airtel, Power Grid, SunPharma, SBI, Bajaj Finsav and others came in the cheapest list.

Market value volatility: The market capitalization of the Mumbai Stock Exchange rose by Rs 74 thousand crore overnight to close at Rs 288.42 lakh crore. Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold shares to the tune of Rs 158.01 crore last Friday and withdrew investments.
