Mumbai: Indian stock markets closed sharply lower on Wednesday. The Sensex was down 774 points (1.27 per cent) at 60,205. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty fell 226 points (1.25 per cent) to 1,892.
Stock markets started trading lower on Wednesday. As of 09:43 am, the Sensex was down 282.61 points at 60,696.14. The Nifty fell 74.60 points to close at 18,043.70 on the NSE.
The stock market fell sharply on Wednesday as declines in financial and banking stocks and monthly F&O expiry took a toll on investors.
By the end of the trading session, the Sensex was up 773.69 points at 60,205.06. Meanwhile, Nifty rose 226.35 points to 17,891.95 on the National Stock Exchange.
In terms of individual stocks, Hindustan Unilever, Tata Steel and ITC were higher. Nestlé India, Tata Motors, M&M, Wipro, Asian Paints, Reliance Industries, L&T and HDFC were the decliners.
