Sensex plunged 293 points on the last trading day of the year

Friday, the last trading day of the year, ended with the stock market falling. Subsequently, the Mumbai stock market index Sensex fell 293 points to stabilize. The national stock market index Nifty settled down 85.70 points (0.47 per cent) at 18,105.30.

US markets ended on a positive note on Thursday. Following this, the domestic market started with an initial boom. But, as the sentiment in the European markets was negative, the impact reverberated in the domestic market as well. Thus, the domestic market ended negatively on the last trading day of the year, stock brokerage firms said.

Sensex falls: The Sensex, which opened the morning up 195.28 points at 61,329.16, touched a high of 61,392.68. The Sensex, which later went down to 60,743.71, eventually closed down 293.14 points (0.48 per cent) at 60,840.74. 11 stocks on the Sensex index fell. 19 stocks came in the expensive list. Notably, the Sensex rose 258.80 points (0.42 percent) during the morning trade.

Bajaj Fin Sav Strong: Popular private equity firm Bajaj Fin Sav rose 2.21 percent and Titan led the gainers with a gain of 1.77 percent. Next to these, Bajaj Finance, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Wipro, Kotak Bank etc. rose by 0.50 to 0.80 percent. Also, market leader Reliance, SBI and Sunpharma also rose slightly to enter the gainer list.

ICICI Bank declines: Meanwhile, leading private sector bank ICICI Bank shed 1.74 per cent and Bharti Airtel led the decliners by 1.56 per cent. Next to these, HDFC, L&T, Nestle, ITC, M&M and others fell between 1 and 1.50 per cent. Also, HDFC Bank, Indus Ind Bank, Infosys, HCL Tech, TCS, Maruti, Axis Bank and other leading corporate stocks also came in the low price list.

Market Capitalization: Meanwhile, the market capitalization rose by Rs 2 thousand crore to Rs 282.38 lakh crore at the close of trading. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares and withdrew investments to the tune of Rs 572.78 crore on Monday, according to market statistics.

A historical record

Sensex stood at 58,253.82 on December 31 last year (2021). Meanwhile, the Sensex hit an all-time high of 63,583.07 on December 1, 2022. Similarly, last June 17, 2022 went down to 50,921.22 points and registered a 52-week low. It is noteworthy that last year (2021), the Sensex rose by a total of 10,502.49 points (21.99 percent).
