In line with the rapidly aging society, the Seoul Metropolitan Government (Mayor Oh Se-hoon) is starting to provide tailored job support for each age group, from middle-aged people in their 40s to seniors in their 60s or older.

The Seoul 50 Plus Foundation (CEO Kang Myeong) announced a new plan for 2025 with the goal of strengthening the economic stability and social connection of middle-aged people. In order to respond to the social challenges of aging and population cliff, we plan to strengthen various support measures to foster middle-aged people as key growth engines for future Seoul.

To this end, the foundation has set four key tasks: ▲expanding customized job support for each age group, ▲strengthening reskilling for job transitions, ▲promoting specialized projects by region, and ▲shifting the employment ecosystem paradigm for middle-aged and older people.

Through ‘customized job support for each age group,’ we plan to hold regional job fairs five times a year in cooperation with autonomous districts so that more middle-aged and older generations can secure quality private and public job opportunities, and we plan to hold corporate recruitment briefing sessions on a regular basis. In addition, we plan to run new on-site experience-based recruitment information sessions that go to companies. In addition, we plan to operate a combination of job experience and on-site interviews to improve job suitability and strengthen employment continuity, and will improve the existing internship project and operate it as an ‘experienced talent support project’.

‘Strengthening reskilling for job transition’ will strengthen the search for suitable and promising occupations and support for job transition in line with the rapidly changing AI and digital transformation era. In order to provide more systematic job training opportunities to middle-aged job seekers, including those in their 40s, who are considering a career change, the number of education and training subjects will be greatly expanded from about 3,700 last year to about 16,000.

The ‘Seoul Middle-aged Job Fair’, an opportunity for companies and job seekers to meet, will also be expanded. The ‘2024 Seoul Middle-aged Job Fair’, which was successfully held on Monday, July 22nd last year with the participation of 3,414 middle-aged job seekers and 71 companies, was expanded to two days this year and became a large-scale job fair with about 120 companies participating. Promote.

In addition, in 2025, the mid-aged employment ecosystem forum will be held twice with the goal of creating a ‘sustainable employment environment for the middle-aged and elderly.’ This forum, held twice in March and September, is designed as an opportunity for companies and experts to discuss ways to improve the employment environment for middle-aged people and prepare policy alternatives.

Meanwhile, the ‘Seoul Senior Job Support Center’, which opened this year, breaks away from the existing public job-centered structure and focuses on discovering and linking jobs suitable for new seniors that reflect the education, experience, and expertise of senior individuals. The center supports anyone who wants to work and spend their golden years through customized employment training and counseling services. More information can be found on the website (50plus.or.kr/sjc) or by phone (02-460-5600).

The ‘Seoul Senior Job Support Center’ is located on the first floor of the Seoul 50 Plus East Campus (73 Neungdong-ro 3-gil, Gwangjin-gu), and is operated by the Seoul 50 Plus Foundation, which has extensive experience in supporting jobs for middle-aged and elderly people.

‘Seoul-style Senior Internship’, which provides practical experience at corporate sites, a ‘Job Training Program’ that provides a one-stop link from education to employment, and a ‘Challenger’s Club’ that will serve as a support base for seniors starting to prepare for employment. It provides ‘Senior Job Challenge’ and ‘Senior Manpower Bank’, a recruitment and job search platform exclusively for seniors.

Kang Myeong, CEO of the Seoul 50 Plus Foundation, said, “2025 is an important turning point when Korea enters an era of full-scale super-aging and a population cliff,” and added, “The foundation will actively work to support customized jobs and prepare policy alternatives so that middle-aged people can develop more potential.” “It is,” he said.
