Sep. International women’s tennis in Chennai starts on 12th; Amritraj praises the Chief Minister

Chennai: The WTA Women’s International Tennis Tournament ‘Chennai Open’ will be held from September 12 to 18. The Tamil Nadu government is gearing up for the next international tournament by hosting the 44th International Chess Olympiad. It is an international tennis tournament to be held in Chennai next month. As the Men’s ATP Tennis Series in Chennai has already been shifted to Pune as the Maharashtra Open in 2018, now for the first time the Tamil Nadu Government is collaborating with the Women’s International Tennis Association (WTA) to host the ‘Chennai Open’ tennis tournament for girls. The Tamil Nadu Government has made the arrangements in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association and the International Women’s Tennis Association.

Meanwhile, the date of Chennai Open has also been finalized. Accordingly, the Chennai Open, which will begin on September 12, will be held until September 18. The notification about the players participating in the tournament will be published soon. These matches will be telecasted live by Sony Sports. Regarding the Chennai Open, Tamil Nadu Tennis Association president and former player Vijay Amritraj said, ‘I would like to express my appreciation to the Tamil Nadu Prime Minister M.K.Stalin and the Tamil Nadu Government for successfully conducting the Chess Olympiad. Next, we are ready to successfully conduct the women’s tennis tournament to be held in September. This tournament will help women’s tennis to grow in popularity and development not only in Tamil Nadu but also in India,” he said.
