>> Calls on the SNTE leadership to defend public schools and recognize them as the only way to achieve better life opportunities

The Ministry of Public Education (SEP), through its head, Leticia Ramírez Amaya, received from the general secretary of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE), Alfonso Cepeda Salas, the National List of Demands 2024 (PND) to begin work tables, analysis and budget negotiations between both parties.

The head of the SEP recalled that the government of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has four priority objectives in the sector: improving educational infrastructure through the School is Ours (LEN) program; reduce school dropout and dropout rates with the Benito Juárez Wellbeing Scholarships program; consolidate the curricular proposal of the New Mexican School (NEM), and dignify the teaching function.

In the presence of representatives of the national governing bodies and general secretaries of the union body, he added that the recognition of the work of the teaching profession is not limited to the development of the new family of Free Textbooks (LTG) and the Plans and Programs of Basic Education 2022, as it also considers teaching work in groups.

“The educational proposal implies that teachers are effectively recognized in their daily work and in different areas. Here we have to be very clear, the President of the Republic says it and maintains it: the recognition of teachers and education workers must be carried out permanently.”

He maintained that they will seek to support the teaching profession in a balanced manner.

“We have to recognize the importance of a dignified school or a teacher with the dignity of his work. “Find a way to have an increasingly significant salary increase, to say that we are building a sovereign homeland and a country with social justice.”

He called on the SNTE leadership to defend public schools and recognize it as the only way out for citizens, girls, boys, adolescents and young people to achieve better life opportunities, which is why ideas of privatization should not be allowed or promoted. of Education.

He said that the current administration coincides with the educational vision of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, which was based on the free acquisition of knowledge with real and practical explanations, which was opposed to the traditional school, based on repetition and memory resources.

“The so-called rationalist education was seen by Carrillo Puerto as a revolutionary, scientific, organizational, productive and humanist form. He was a visionary and many of his postulates have to do with the proposal that we are making.”

The general secretary of the SNTE, Alfonso Cepeda Salas, stated that the main demand of teachers is a salary increase, according to their preparation and responsibility. “It is a legitimate aspiration that all teachers be vindicated and that everyone receives a fair salary, as they deserve.”

He explained that the PND is made up of 237 demands, proposed by one million 445 thousand 336 education workers who participated in the sixth national survey for this purpose.

He expressed the teachers’ recognition to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, “who is convinced of public schools and demonstrates this in compelling facts,” such as the basification of almost a million members and salary increases above inflation.

Also present on behalf of the SEP were: the head of the Administration and Finance Unit, Óscar Flores Jiménez, and the coordinator of Interinstitutional Relations, Carlos Ramírez Sámano.

For the SNTE, the president of the National Committee for Surveillance, Transparency and Presentation of Results, María Luisa Gutiérrez Santoyo.
