Less than 150 thousand tourists arrived in Cuba in the month of September, this being the worst figure so far this year in international visits, which keeps tourism on the Island in the red.

Even with the various hotel and non-hotel investments of the communist government, the tourism sector in Cuba still has not recovered, confirmed by this data published by the Prensa Latina agency.

When it was thought that June would be the worst month, when 154,590 tourists arrived, September was lower, and the difference with previous years is evident.

If we compare with the same periods, for example in 2017, the arrival in September was close to 250 thousand; being better in 2018, when 280 thousand were registered. A year later, there were 200 thousand tourists.

Despite the government clique prioritizing this sector, vital to trying to sustain the Cuban economy, tourism still does not report large numbers.

Only the Canadian market could be considered a positive element in 2023, which represents almost 40% of total visitors.

In the first 3 quarters of the year, 709,556 travelers arrived from that country, and 33,560 did so in September.

Despite the fact that the authorities of the northern country warned about “extreme caution” when traveling to Cuba due to the social and economic crisis, Canada continues to be the first country that sends tourists to Cuba.

“Be very careful in Cuba due to shortages of essential items, including food, medicine and fuel,” says an update to travel recommendations from Canada.
