Thanks to this US-funded research work, the first complete map of the human genome is finally complete.

This scientific result is breathtaking. Tiny and 2.5 times smaller than the X chromosome (present twice in women and once in men), the Y chromosome is finally deciphered. Its complete sequencing is carried out, according to two publications published in Nature. This is a scientific and technical feat which opens up new fields for genetics and certain treatments.

It is first of all a long scientific project. The complete sequencing of the Y chromosome completes the complete map of the human genome, the support of life, made up of 3.1 billion base pairs (where each base is symbolized by one of the four letters A, T, C or G). The succession of these letters characterizes the genes carried by each chromosome. This international project was started more than thirty years ago, and the first, incomplete version of the genome, the Human Genome Project, was published in 2003.
