As of this Wednesday, September 20, Serge Gainsbourg’s house is open to the public. The first visitors leave this museum with sparkling eyes.
It’s been a long time since fans appropriated Serge Gainsbourg’s house, even during his lifetime. But they were content with the facade. Today they can enter the house. For the first of them, the emotion is there. A man says to himself “very touched”. “There’s a lot of worn-out furniture. We feel his presence, his armchairs, his pianos…” assures a visitor. Another believes that it must have been “a hell of a headache”.
Three months of waiting
Images are not allowed inside this legendary house. But it seems that nothing has changed since the mid-70s, when Serge invited the cameras into his privacy. In the Gainsbourg house, visitors will find all of the artist’s favorite objects, including Serge’s cigarettes and shoes. Barely open to the public, there is already a three-month wait to visit the house museum. There is no question of improvising, like an Israeli tourist.
