Her security policy is outdated and her structures inefficient: Interior Minister Faeser is being heavily criticized by the Green Party.
As a result of the Islamist attack in Solingen, Green Party domestic politicians are demanding a change of times for more internal security. They are strongly critical of Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser from the coalition partner SPD. In her department, “a classic, now largely outdated security policy is being pursued that gets caught up far too much in symbolic debates,” write Bundestag parliamentary group vice-chair Konstantin von Notz and parliamentary manager Irene Mihalic in a position paper. It is available to the ARD capital studio and the German Press Agency.
In general, they accuse the federal and state interior ministers of doing too little to promote cooperation between the various authorities. “This lack of action creates ineffective and sometimes dangerous duplicate structures and no structures at all.” The interior ministers are all from the CDU/CSU or SPD.
Specifically, Notz and Mihalic are calling for sufficient staff and more powers for the security authorities – including undercover investigations in social networks and better communication between the police and secret services. The federal and state governments should look at why consistent deportations of non-German threats fail. To finance this, they suggest defining internal security as a joint task in the Basic Law, i.e. making the federal and state governments jointly responsible.
