About twenty cars were involved in a serious traffic accident on San Óscar Arnulfo Romero boulevard and Los Próceres boulevard.
The authorities reported that a trailer registered mechanical damage, colliding with approximately 30 vehicles, leaving 12 injured who were transferred to a care center and one deceased; Given this, the driver identified as Carlos Alberto Portillo Vásquez, 54 years old, was captured.
Around 50 people from different institutions: Civil Protection Operational Tactical Teams, Emergency Medical System (SEM), Fire Department, FOSALUD, FOVIAL, National Civil Police (PNC), El Salvador Armed Forces worked together to attend to the emergency.
The victims were transferred to the San Rafael de Santa Tecla Hospital, the General Hospital of the Salvadoran Social Security Institute (ISSS) and the Benjamin Blom Children’s Hospital; Also, two injured people were treated at the scene by medical personnel from the Operational Tactical Teams.
The director of the Fire Department, Baltazar Solano, reported that after helping the victims of the multiple accident, preventive actions were taken in the area, such as disconnecting the vehicle batteries and the permanence of a team from the institution in case of any emergency.
Meanwhile, PNC investigative personnel carried out an inspection in the area where the traffic accident occurred, caused by the driver of a heavy vehicle that was incorporated from Monseñor Romero boulevard to Los Próceres. The driver, identified as Carlos Portillo, was preliminarily detained and will be charged with manslaughter and injuries, to the detriment of the affected victims.
