SESARAM calls on more than 300 women for cervical cancer screening

by time news

The Regional Health Service (SESARAM, EPERAM) has already called 313 women this year as part of cervical cancer screening, and of the scheduled consultations, 94 have already been carried out with sample collection.

The call is made via telephone, and it is expected that, soon, women will be able to be called for screening via SMS.

Furthermore, this resource will also be made available for communicating the results, which is currently being done by letter, sent by the Secretariat of the RAM Screening Center and is intended for women registered in the Region’s Health Centers, with all those eligible who present an asymptomatic condition and who complete, each year, the ages of 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55 and 60 years.

In parallel to screening, vaccination against HPV is another important tool in preventing cervical cancer, integrating the Regional Vaccination Plan. This vaccine has been administered to girls since 2008, and to boys since 2020, from the age of 10 onwards.

Started in 2022, as a pilot project, cervical cancer screening is, at this time, taking place in several health centers in Madeira.
