Sestri Levante Hospital and Tigullio Hospitals; many promises never kept by the mayor and the center-right Region

Many promises have been made about the Sestri Levante hospital and the Tigullio hospital complex in recent years: strengthening of rehabilitation, oncology, the pneumology service, the center for eating disorders. Promises that have vanished in reality!

The case of the Fiocchetto Lilla Foundation is emblematic. Since March and August 31, having no support from the Region and the ASL, it has reported the difficulty in continuing the service carried out in agreement with the ASL 4 for the provision of psychological support services at the day clinic of the Eating Disorders Center of the SSD Dietetica e Nutrizione Clinica of Sestri Levante.

Specialists in the field report that Bulimia, binge eating disorder and anorexia are very widespread starting from adolescence between the ages of eleven and thirteen with a significant peak in young women.

There is a high risk of losing the Foundation’s collaboration service with the healthcare team for the implementation of the activities of the “Body Laboratory” and “Art Therapy Laboratory” projects aimed at the rehabilitation of patients followed by the Eating Disorders Center.

A late denial has arrived from the ASL, to which we ask to clarify the strengthening of services related to eating disorders that in fact has not materialized.

We would have expected a shield raised by the Mayor of Sestri Levante and his excellent majority towards the Region, to demand interventions towards this continuous agony of public health. But it was not so!

It is yet another hard blow to public health by the mismanagement of those who govern public health in Liguria. We wonder what happened to the announced enhancements to the vocations of the Sestri hospital as for the Oncology department, promised and never materialized, and that of Rehabilitation just to give the two most striking examples.

We are faced with the inexorable impoverishment of important services to guarantee Ligurians the right to treatment and prevention, with funding for public health that instead is allocated to private health care.

The PD is loudly calling for a change of direction in local healthcare, so as not to leave healthcare workers exhausted and citizens forced to turn to private healthcare or, even worse, to give up treatment due to lack of resources.
