The smartphone rings, but where is it? By the time you find it, the device has fallen silent again. We show how you can extend the ring time.

On Apple and Android devices, the ringing duration of the smartphone can be set using so-called control codes. The mobile phone provider often sets a default time of 15 seconds until the call is automatically redirected to the mobile box – also known as the mailbox. This is the happy medium of the adjustable range, which ranges from five to 30 seconds in five-second increments.

Code number is required

To change the setting, you need to know your mobile network operator and the code number. The numbers are:

  • Telekom (3311)
  • Vodafone (5500)
  • Telefónica / O2 (333)

To activate the control code, you must enter the following command into the keyboard of your phone app and then click on the phone receiver:

**61*Code number**Seconds#

An example: If you want your smartphone to ring for 25 seconds on the Vodafone network, enter the code **61*5500**25#. The network operator then confirms the change to the setting with a message. Such changes are free and can be repeated as often as you like.
