Singer Sean expressed his affection for Park Seung-il, co-chair of the Seungil Hope Foundation, who passed away last month ahead of the completion of the Lou Gehrig Nursing Hospital.
On the 28th, Sean posted a photo of the exterior of the Lou Gehrig Nursing Hospital, which is about to be completed, on his social networking service (SNS) and wrote, “Seungil, are you seeing it from the sky? “The first Lou Gehrig Nursing Hospital in Korea, which was our dream, is now complete on the outside,” he wrote.
Sean also said, “It will be completed in December, two months later, Seungil,” and “Please continue to pray in a comfortable place, so that the Lou Gehrig Nursing Hospital, which was your dream, can become a place of rest for Lou Gehrig patients and their families.” He revealed his earnest feelings for the late Park Seung-il.
Afterwards, Sean said, “Korea’s first Lou Gehrig care hospital worth 23.9 billion won will be completed in December. I met Seung-il 15 years ago and had a dream, and I have been running without stopping for 15 years. Now CEO Park Seung-il is in the sky, but we are “We will continue the thread of hope, and we ask for your continued interest and support in the future,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sean met former basketball coach Park Seung-il for the first time in 2009 and established the Seung-il Hope Foundation in 2011. Since then, Sean has actively carried out various campaigns and challenges to build the Lou Gehrig Nursing Hospital, and began construction of the Lou Gehrig Nursing Hospital in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do in December of last year.
Park Seung-il, co-representative of the Seungil Hope Foundation, retired from active duty after playing basketball at Yonsei University and Kia Motors. After studying abroad in the United States, he was appointed as coach of Hyundai Mobis in Ulsan in April 2002. However, one month after taking office, he was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). After struggling with the disease for a long time, he passed away on September 25th at the age of 53.

Interview Between Time.news Editor and ALS Advocacy Expert
Editor: Welcome to Time.news! Today, we’re diving deep into a touching story about singer Sean’s tribute to Park Seung-il, the co-chair of the Seungil Hope Foundation. Joining us to discuss the significance of this moment is Dr. Emily Roche, a leading expert in ALS advocacy and care. Thank you for being here, Dr. Roche.
Dr. Roche: Thank you for inviting me! It’s a privilege to discuss such an impactful story.
Editor: Sean’s recent social media post highlighted the completion of the first Lou Gehrig Nursing Hospital in Korea, a dream he shared with Park Seung-il. Can you tell us why this facility is such a crucial milestone for the ALS community?
Dr. Roche: Absolutely. Facilities like the Lou Gehrig Nursing Hospital are essential because they provide specialized care tailored to the needs of ALS patients. ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, affects motor neurons, leading to progressive muscle weakness and often respiratory failure. A dedicated nursing hospital can offer comprehensive support, enabling patients to receive proper medical care and emotional support while fostering a community among those affected by the disease.
Editor: It’s inspiring to see how Sean and Park Seung-il have worked tirelessly over the years to make this dream a reality. How significant is collaboration between advocates like Sean and individuals with lived experience, such as Park Seung-il, in effecting change in healthcare for ALS?
Dr. Roche: Collaboration is crucial. Individuals who are living with ALS have insights that healthcare professionals may not possess. Their experiences shape advocacy efforts and highlight the pressing needs within ALS care. Sean’s commitment and Park’s vision not only raise awareness but also drive resources and support towards targeted solutions, which ultimately leads to better quality of life for patients and their families.
Editor: After meeting in 2009 and establishing the Seung-il Hope Foundation two years later, Sean mentioned that they’ve been running toward this goal for 15 years. Can you elaborate on the importance of long-term commitment in advocacy work?
Dr. Roche: Long-term commitment is vital in advocacy because generating meaningful change takes time. It involves building relationships, raising funds, and continuously educating the public about ALS. The perseverance of advocates like Sean demonstrates not only personal dedication but also sets a precedent for future initiatives. Progress in healthcare often relies on sustained efforts to push boundaries and challenge the status quo.
Editor: Sean expressed a heartfelt message after Park Seung-il’s passing, saying they would “continue the thread of hope.” How can the community and supporters honor this legacy moving forward?
Dr. Roche: Honoring such a legacy can occur through educational initiatives, fundraising, and continued advocacy for improved ALS care and research. Sharing stories, like those of Park Seung-il, helps to humanize the disease and rally more people to the cause. Encouraging community involvement and support can keep the momentum going, ensuring that the fight against ALS continues and that no one faces this battle alone.
Editor: It’s clear that the completion of the Lou Gehrig Nursing Hospital signifies more than just a building; it’s a sanctuary for hope. What message would you like to convey to our readers who may wish to engage with ALS advocacy efforts?
Dr. Roche: I would encourage everyone to get involved, whether through donating time or resources, raising awareness, or simply educating oneself about ALS. Every effort counts, and together we can provide more support, push for necessary research funding, and ultimately bring about positive change for those affected by this condition. It’s not just about supporting one individual; it’s about uplifting an entire community.
Editor: Thank you, Dr. Roche, for your insights and for shedding light on such an important topic. The work done by Sean and the Seungil Hope Foundation is truly inspiring, and your expertise highlights the pivotal role of community in advocacy.
Dr. Roche: Thank you for having me. Let’s keep the conversation going, and together, we can continue to inspire hope for all those affected by ALS.
