Seven people from the same family died in an accident on BR 316, in Ouricuri, in Sertão of Pernambuco, when they returned from a wake. According to the PRF (Federal Highway Police), a van collided with the back of a truck transporting wood. The vehicle was carrying 19 people and was badly destroyed. The occupants of the van are from the same family and were returning from a wake in Arapiraca, in Alagoas, bound for Araripina, in Pernambuco. The accident occurred around 4 am, at km 109 of the highway. According to the PRF, at least ten people were taken to the Ouricuri Regional Hospital. The total number of injured was not reported. The driver of the van and the passenger of the truck were not injured. Both presented themselves at the PRF station in Ouricuri. According to the corporation, the drivers of the van and truck underwent a breathalyzer test and the result was normal. Both were taken to the Ouricuri Civil Police Station. The investigation will be carried out by the Civil police. In addition to the PRF, the Fire Department, Find (Mobile Emergency Care Service), PM (Military police) and IC (Institute of Criminalistics) were at the scene. Araripina City Hall lamented the deaths and stated that it will provide full support to the families of the victims and survivors. “The city of Araripina is in mourning,” said the municipal administration.
