The earthquake of September 19 of 2017, of magnitude 7.1, left both physical and emotional marks on University Cityof the UNAM; some of the damage still persists over seven years.

Among the spaces that remain affected by the earthquake to this day is the Faculty of Medicinewhose exterior pillars of building A remain wrapped with caution tape, in addition to having metal reinforcement panels covered by anti-debris mesh located on the outside of the facade.

These signs are a daily reminder to the student community of the structural fragility revealed by the earthquake.

Valentino Gonzaleza student at that faculty in 2017, recalled that during the earthquake he was in language class when everything began to move, “the electrical system collapsed and we couldn’t open the door in time, we were trapped, it was a terrifying experience that I will never forget.”

Seven years after the earthquake, the UNAM Repair continues on many affected areas on campus.
