Several hundred supporters greet the Paralympians at the Freedom Monument /

Latvian para-athletes arrived in Riga on Monday evening and reached the Freedom Monument by bus about 15 minutes before midnight. Spectators gathered at the monument could watch the arrival of the athletes live on the big screen of Latvian Television.

The Paris Paralympic Games took place from August 28 to September 8, and approximately 4,400 para-athletes from 186 national Paralympic committees competed in them.

Latvian para-athlete Rihards Snikus won two gold medals in the Paralympic Games with the horse “King of the Dance”, Diāna Krūmiņa became the Paralympic champion in javelin throwing, and Aigars Apinis won the silver medal in discus throwing.

Latvia was represented at the Paris Paralympic Games by Apinis, Krūmiņa, Emīls Dzilna and Raivo Maksims (all – athletics), Oskars Gailišs (cycling), Yuris Semyonovs (swimming), Margita Kanopka (shooting) and Snikus (Paralympic dressage).

Paralight athlete Edgars Bergs had also won a place in the games, but he refused to start in Paris due to health reasons.
