Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama shared footage from the construction site of Corridor 8 on social networks, writing that work is being done in parallel on several lots for its finalization on the Albanian side, ATA reported.

Corridor 8 is one of the key infrastructure projects that connects to three other important road networks, as well as corridors 4, 9 and the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T), the agency noted.

The completion of the corridor will shorten the distance between Tirana and Tetovo (in the Republic of North Macedonia) to less than two hours.

Corridor 8, a land and rail link that starts from Brindisi in Italy, passes through Albania, the Republic of North Macedonia and ends at the ports of Bulgaria, is part of the strategic Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) from December 1, 2022, recalls ATA .

The construction of Corridor 8 received special attention from the Albanian government as a key link also for military mobility and supply lines in the region of Southeast Europe, the agency also informed, quoted by BTA.

Footage of the construction of the corridor was also shared on social networks today by the Minister of Defense of Albania, Piro Vengu. He published a video of part of the constructed road axis and of the construction site for the full completion of Corridor 8, where investments are made according to the best road infrastructure standards, notes ATA.

The Albanian Minister of Defense emphasized that Corridor 8 is a NATO security corridor “not only for the region, but also for our entire continent”. He added that the work on its construction in its Albanian part will end with the project of a new port in Porto Romano to the Albanian coastal town of Durres.
