One of the most popular franchise-based events in the world is the Indian Premier League (IPL). Day by day IPL authorities added new rules to make this event more popular. But those rules have turned into a thorn in the neck. Therefore, some rules may change based on the needs of the franchisees.

The IPL authorities held a meeting with the franchise owners. In the meeting held at the office of the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) in Mumbai, several issues including impact players, IPL mega auction, foreign cricketers, retention of old cricketers were discussed. However, no final decision has been taken.

After the meeting, BCCI secretary Jai Shah said in a statement that the board will take the recommendations to the governing council for discussion and evaluation before formulating the new rules of the IPL. Mega auction of IPL will be held in December this year. A few rule changes may be announced there.

It is learned that the impact player rule has been given the most importance in the discussion. Delhi Capitals objected to that. This rule was introduced to give more opportunities to Indian cricketers. However, due to impact player rules, the importance of all-rounders has decreased a lot. Therefore, Delhi wants to abolish this rule.

Another big part of the discussion was foreign cricketers. Many foreign cricketers refused to play in the IPL even after getting a team from the auction. As a result, the team owners are in trouble. The owners have called for strict measures to prevent foreign cricketers from playing before the start of the IPL without any valid reason.

Besides, Sunrisers Hyderabad has asked for the rule of retaining at least 7 cricketers in the case of retaining foreign cricketers. They are supported by multiple franchises. The meeting also discussed the maximum cost limit, increasing the remuneration of cricketers based on performance. The decision is now in the hands of time.
