After the weather was sunny and warm on Friday, there will hardly be any change in Carinthia on Saturday. But on Sunday it will be more unstable and uncomfortable again.

“Saturday will be sunny and warm, with local thunderstorms possible in the afternoon in the Tauern up to the Gurktal Alps – i.e. just north of Carinthia,” says a meteorologist from Geosphere Austria in an interview with 5 min. Otherwise, it should remain largely storm-free – at least for now.
“Thunderstorm cells are expected to move quite quickly”
There will be widespread thunderstorms on Sunday. Storms from the north could also be relatively severe in the early afternoon hours. “Thunderstorms and hail cannot be ruled out either,” the meteorologist explains. Heavy rain is also accompanying the storms, but the cells are likely to move quite quickly. “It can still be very heavy rain in some places in a short time,” the meteorologist warns. In any case, temperatures could be above 30 degrees again before the storms, especially in the Klagenfurt basin, which will be sunny and warm by then.

“Geosphere Austria” has already issued a yellow thunderstorm warning for (almost) the whole of Carinthia for Sunday. The main danger is therefore thunderstorms, followed by local heavy rain. Hail is also possible in sporadic cases.

Recommendations for action from “Geosphere Austria”:
- Seals windows, doors and garage doors, as well as skylights and ventilators.
- Expect temporary delays in road, rail and air traffic.
- If a storm occurs, leave the water immediately.
- Seek shelter in good time, especially in the mountains.
- Land recreational aircraft early and arrive at ports early with boats.
- Pay attention to thunderstorm and tornado warnings on the lakes.

However, the new week will start in a warm summer again, with the influence of high pressure on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. “Only on Thursday or generally in the second half of the week things look a bit more unstable again,” the expert concluded.
