The 2024 European Championships were rocked by a scandal over an accidental advertisement for a sex shop.

Chinese company BYD, one of the main sponsors of the Euro, launched an advertisement for its electric cars. BYD management purchased a large number of advertising slots, and their advertisement was shown in every match. However, an unexpected situation occurred: some German fans, trying to find the BYD website, entered the domain extension .de instead of the official .com.

It turned out that the website BYD.de exists and belongs to a sex shop called Buy Your Dildo, which sells sex toys. German fans who decided to find BYD cars accidentally ended up on this website.

Traffic to the sex shop skyrocketed, forcing its owners to issue a warning to users who accidentally stumbled upon the site, redirecting them to the car company’s website.

The sex shop’s homepage now reads: “By popular demand: We are not a sponsor of the 2024 European Championships. If you are looking for a Chinese car manufacturer, visit byd.com.”

Conspiracy theories and discussions have taken over social media, with some suggesting it was a “viral publicity stunt” and “a genius marketing ploy to attract attention.” “I’ve seen this story 47 times in two days. That’s 47 times more than I’ve heard about BYD sponsorship,” wrote one user. “The cynic in me suspects this is intentional. Which is kind of funny because it’s all fair. But BYD shouldn’t have allowed this to happen,” added another.

Also, “Cursor” reported that a fan was severely beaten by stewards at the Euro 2024 match.
