Manikandan was the Minister of Information Technology in the last ADMK regime. On this, film supporting actress Chandini said, “I have been living with Manikandan for the past five years. Because of this, I got pregnant three times. Due to Manikandan’s crisis, I terminated that pregnancy. First he promised to get married and now he cheated me,” she had complained to the police.

Following this complaint, a five-section case was registered against Manikandan at Adyar All Women Police Station. Also, he was arrested while absconding in Bangalore. After his arrest, his bail plea was dismissed several times, but the Madras High Court granted him bail with conditions.
