An actress has accused Indian Bengali film director-actor Arindam Sheel of sexual harassment. She was dismissed from the Directors Guild after she complained to the Women’s Commission. After that, the victim actress filed a case against Arindam.
There is a lot of discussion on this issue in Kolkata. Arindam’s wife Shukla Das was silent about the matter till now. Finally, he clarified his position while talking to TV Nine about the whole incident.
Shukla Das has been associated with Arindam for over 26 years. Referring to that, he said, ‘I have known Arindam since 1992. We have been in a relationship for over 26 years. He had a love for filmmaking and acting from the very beginning. Before 1999, Arindam also worked in a large company. Then I say you can’t walk in two boats. I said, I have a job, I can handle it. So had the confidence to take risks. Arindam’s name has been associated with many big movies over the years. I want to make it clear to everyone that I used to go to Arindam’s floor when he was performing. And now I go to director Arindam’s floor too. I know how it works.’
Arindam explains to the actors and actresses how to act in intimate scenes. Referring to this information, Shukla Das said, ‘I have been associated with his (Arindam) movie since the time of making the script. I know how he acts in any movie scene. Any scene from close-up shows acting itself out. Many times young actors have to perform and show themselves. Even many experienced actors asked Arindam to act out the scene. I witnessed many such intimate scenes shooting, rehearsals. Arindam doesn’t just play heroines. (Arindam) explains the same in the case of male actors.’
Shukla Das has seen the behind the scenes video of the day when Arindam was accused of the incident. Informing that, he said, ‘I was not on the shooting floor that day on which so many complaints were made. But I know everything that happened there. Because, he always shares behind the scenes videos with me. I know everything that happened that day. Maybe that actress is new. He is acting in such a big budget movie, so maybe he is scared. He was nervous about it. He felt uncomfortable. But when he heard the script he should have understood exactly what he had to do. In that scene it was written ‘deep kiss’. He may feel uncomfortable.’
Arindam Sheel is framed. Referring to this information, Shukla Das said, ‘Why did the heroine complain after so many days about the incident that happened on April 3? I have also worked in many big companies. I know exactly what can happen. I really don’t know why the actress did that. Someone may have influenced him. I can emphatically say that this is done with the intention of tarnishing the image of Arindam for 35 years. Arindam should talk to all the heroines. One should never question him on the basis of a baseless incident. He is being framed. Leena Ganguly is the Chairperson of the Commission for Women. On the other hand, producers and directors. Shukla Das feels that Arindam heroine Jaya Ahsan, Koel Mallick should be talked about. Rather, the women’s commission signed the letter only by putting pressure on Arindam. The signed letter was sent to the directors’ guild after framing him. The whole incident seems pre-planned.’
Referring to Swami Arindam as a ‘good man’, Shukla Das writes, ‘Arindam is a good man, he accepts force. I wonder why this is happening? I would like to ask by what technical qualification did she (Leena Ganguly) get such an important post? Arindam is a victim of circumstances. I tell you, he is a good person and said sorry. Because, he felt that there is no benefit in increasing the debate. Arindam knows how to respect women. I really do not understand, on what basis this happened!’
