San Francisco Giants coach Bob Melvin predicted that Lee Jeong-hoo (26), who suffered a dislocated shoulder, “does not seem to need surgery.” It’s a blessing in disguise.
Coach Melvin talked about Lee Jeong-hoo’s injury at a meeting with local reporters ahead of the 2024 Major League Baseball home game against the LA Dodgers held at Oracle Park in San Francisco, California on the 14th (Korean time).
Previously, in the home game against the Cincinnati Reds held on the 13th, Lee Jung-hoo injured his shoulder after colliding with the fence while trying to catch Cincinnati Jamer Candelario’s batted ball while fielding in the top of the first inning.
After the game, San Francisco announced that Lee Jeong-hoo suffered a dislocated left shoulder.
Local concerns grew as the possibility of a ‘season out’ was mentioned, and San Francisco placed Lee Jeong-hoo on the 10-day injured list.
Director Melvin said, “I just had a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination, and the doctors will look at it. After that, we will make a plan for what to do, and the timeline may come out late tonight.”
When asked about the possibility of Lee Jung-hoo’s surgery, he replied, “I don’t know,” but added, “Lee Jung-hoo will need to see a doctor, but I don’t think surgery will be necessary at the moment.”
It is still too early to tell, but if Lee Jeong-hoo does not go to the operating table, there is a high possibility that he will return within this season.
Lee Jeong-hoo, who underwent a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination, is scheduled to meet with the team’s doctor, Dr. Ken Akizuki. At this meeting, the MRI examination results will be analyzed and treatment methods will be decided.
San Francisco is expected to clearly explain Lee Jung-hoo’s treatment schedule and absence period around the 15th.
Meanwhile, Coach Melvin highly evaluated Lee Jeong-hoo’s passion for defense even though he was injured.
Coach Melvin said, “Lee Jeong-hoo was injured while trying his best to catch the ball from the first inning,” adding, “Lee Jeong-hoo is a team-oriented player and wants to play for the team. “That’s why he seems to be even more disappointed in himself.”
