Singapore’s SG60 Vouchers See Strong Uptake, Boosting Local Economy

More than 2.08 million Singaporeans have claimed their SG60 vouchers, representing a significant injection of funds into the nation’s heartland businesses, as of July 23. The program, designed to celebrate Singapore’s 60th year of independence and recognize the contributions of its citizens, is already demonstrating a positive impact on local spending.

Voucher Claims Exceed Expectations

Over 1.15 million Singaporeans aged 21 to 59 – over 60 percent of the 1.9 million eligible – had claimed their $600 vouchers just one day after the claim window opened for this age group. This follows a successful launch for seniors, with more than 928,000 Singaporeans aged 60 and above, roughly 84 percent of the 1.1 million eligible, having already claimed their $800 vouchers since July 1.

A senior official stated that the strong uptake demonstrates the program’s popularity and its resonance with Singaporeans. The vouchers, accessible at go.gov.sg/sg60v, will remain valid through December 31, 2026.

Distinct from CDC Vouchers, Focused on Individuals

Unlike the CDC vouchers, which are distributed to households, the SG60 vouchers are issued to individual Singaporeans. This distinction underscores the program’s intent to provide direct support to citizens while simultaneously stimulating economic activity. The vouchers are accepted at all businesses that currently accept CDC vouchers, encompassing over 23,000 hawkers and heartland merchants, as well as 400 outlets across eight major supermarket chains nationwide. A comprehensive list of participating outlets can be found at go.gov.sg/sg60voucher.

Spending Reaches $160 Million, Primarily at Local Businesses

To date, over $160 million has been spent through the SG60 voucher program. A significant portion – $95.5 million – has been directed towards participating hawkers and heartland merchants, while more than $64.5 million has been spent at participating supermarkets.

Part of a Broader National Initiative

The SG60 vouchers are a key component of the larger SG60 package announced by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong during Budget 2025. This initiative aims to acknowledge the contributions of all Singaporeans and share the benefits of the nation’s progress as it approaches its diamond jubilee. The program is expected to reach approximately three million adults, with a total estimated cost of $2.02 billion to the government.

“By spending locally, we not only help heartland businesses thrive but also strengthen community ties and boost our local economy,” a senior official explained. “We look forward to the fresh injection of spending and higher activity level that the SG60 vouchers will bring to our local neighbourhood shops and hawkers.”

The SG60 vouchers, like their CDC counterparts, are strategically designed to bolster local communities and support the vitality of Singapore’s heartlands.
