/ Zakho Club President Ammar Farhad confirmed today, Tuesday, that there were interventions and pressures exerted on the Iraqi Football Association that made it cancel the penalty decision it issued against Al-Shorta considering it a loser against Zakho for not adhering to the association’s regulations. While Al-Shorta denied exerting these pressures, the association confirmed the “mistake” of its decision to lose the Green Guitar and amend that later according to its regulations.

Farhad said in an interview with Agency, “The Federation retracted the decision to cancel the penalty against Al-Shorta Club and considered it non-appealable. After we felt wronged and unfair, we decided to internationalize the case and resort to the International Court of Justice (CAS). I will personally file the case and follow it up myself, as I am a lawyer and have a master’s degree in law. We will seek to return the decision in our favor and guarantee our rights.”

For his part, the member of the police administration and the official spokesman, Tahseen Al-Yasiri, said in an interview with Agency that “the words of the president of Zakho Club are inaccurate, as we did not use pressure or relations to recover our right,” explaining that “the regulation was issued after we signed contracts with professionals, and the union was wrong, as its president Adnan Darjal mentioned in one of his statements when he said: The mistake was made by the union regarding the timing of issuing the regulation.”

Al-Yasiri explained that “the date for registering players for the 2023-2024 season began on August 15 and closed on October 15 of last year. During this period set by the federation and after completing the contracts, the federation did not inform us of the regulations and the levels of the players of the national teams with which we will contract. Thus, we have the right to object and win the objection, as we are not subject to accountability and punishment, and this is one of our rights.”

For his part, the Secretary of the Football Association, Mohammed Farhan, confirmed in an interview with Agency that “the notifications sent to all clubs regarding the disciplinary regulations, competitions, and player registration instructions came very late and a short time before the start of the league,” indicating that “there were contracts for players of the Police Sports Club that were made before these instructions reached the clubs, and that the delay is not borne by the Police Sports Club or any other club, but rather by the weakness of the notification procedures in the Iraqi Football Association.”

He added that “what was included in the request to review the decision by the Police Sports Club, and what it included of new and influential evidence in the committee’s decision, it was decided as follows: canceling the committee’s decision No. 5/L D on 12/17/2023, which included: punishing the Police Sports Club for losing the result of the match held on December 8 of last year by 0-3 and a fine of 15 million Iraqi dinars, and punishing the supervisor of the Police Sports Club, Ali Jawad Harija, with a two-month suspension, and considering the procedures for registering professional players correct because they came before the issuance of this decision, provided that the competition regulations regarding the number of professional players are applied starting from the next 13th round of the Iraqi Premier League 2023-2024 competitions.”
