The brother of Shaïna, murdered in Creil in 2019, called on President Emmanuel Macron on Friday to break “the guilty silence” in the face of the situation “of the girls in our neighborhoods”, expressing his “anger” after the conviction of the ex- boyfriend of the teenager to 18 years of imprisonment.

“I am angry (…) A deep anger, which will never leave me”, writes the eldest brother of the teenager, Yasin Hansye, in an open letter to the President of the Republic, posted on his Twitter account, promising to fight for “things to change”.

The conviction of Shaïna’s ex-boyfriend to 18 years’ imprisonment, pronounced on June 10 by the Assize Court for minors in the Oise, became final on Wednesday, neither the condemned person nor the prosecution having calls. The young man, 17 years old at the time of the events, was convicted of having lured Shaïna, 15, probably pregnant with him, into a shed to stab her and then burn her alive.

“My anger is intact”

“He didn’t confess. The verdict has been rendered. He taunted me. And no one called. He will come out of prison before his 35th birthday at worst, but probably long before,” says Yasin Hansye. “My anger is intact, but not my confidence anymore. Every day, I tell myself that I should have avenged her, because the judicial machine was seized up that day, “continues the young man, who also denounces dysfunctions during the complaint filed by Shaïna for “gang rape” , two years before his assassination.

“At that time, we believed in the Republic”, he assures, but “the doctors found that she undressed easily, the policewoman (…) considered that she showed no emotion”. In this first case, four young men were sentenced on appeal to suspended prison terms for “sexual assault”.

“It’s not too late” for “all these teenage girls (…) from our neighborhoods who no longer dare to love, who no longer dare to speak, afraid of ending up like my sister, because their attackers don’t will be more afraid,” wrote his brother.

On Thursday, the family’s lawyer, Negar Haeri, had deplored in a press release that the prosecution had not appealed this sentence, which was much lower than the 30 years of imprisonment he had requested. “Violence against women remains a subsidiary matter,” she said. In France, according to official figures, a woman dies every three days from the violence of her spouse or ex-spouse.
