Yevgeny Shapovalov
For some of you this name will be familiar and for some not, but you have probably heard the voice of Yevgeny Shapovalov in the many collaborations he participated in, the best known of which is the song “Jessica” by Ethniks, which came out about two decades ago.
The 54-year-old singer died during a stay in Thailand, apparently from a heart attack, leaving behind two daughters, and over the years has released more than ten albums, in addition to his collaborations in Israel.
Kiki Rothstein, the director of Shapovalov in Israel, praised him on his Facebook page and wrote, “With pain and great sorrow we say goodbye today to a friend, artist, and a huge singer Yevgeny Shapovalov. It is not perceived. Shapovalov was born in Belarus while under Soviet rule. He immigrated to Israel with the great aliyah in the 1990s, together with his first wife, and lived in the Golan Heights. Over the years he has collaborated with the band Ethniks and the Snake Fish, and has performed with Gabi Sadeh and David Fischer in a joint show, “The Three Tenors”. In the early 2000s, he and Shlomit Aharon launched a joint show, and participated in a show of songs from musicals.
