Iftekhar Uddin Naushad, the leader of Madhumita cinema hall in the capital, was vocal in favor of importing foreign films. However, the film family opposed it at that time. Now Hollywood movies are regularly released in theaters of Bangladesh. However, Iftekhar Uddin Naushad opined that these movies are only profitable for Cineplex.
Although he has been vocal in favor of importing Bollywood movies, Iftekhar Uddin Naushad has changed his tune and told RisingBD, ‘Hollywood movies are being released in our country along with other countries of the world. There is no hindrance from the government. Cineplex survives because of Hollywood movies. Cineplex is now in gold. They are getting Hollywood-Bollywood movies. Every month Hollywood movies are releasing in Cineplex. We talked about the release of foreign films. I had to be humiliated for that. He planned them from behind. I know who did it and why. Cineplex is now profiting. Cineplex did not come to the field. But I have not brought a single Indian movie.’
Explaining the reason for not importing Indian movies, Iftekhar Uddin Naushad said, ‘Why should I bring Indian movies? Why should I take the risk of 40 lakh rupees? I released a Hollywood movie, I lost Rs 5 lakh. My point is that Hollywood movies will not be brought. Good movies should be brought, it can be Turkish movies. In other words, good movies from any country should be brought.’
Shakib Khan movies have more value than Bollywood movies. Referring to that, he said, ‘Shakib’s movies have more value than Indian movies. Bangladeshi viewers watch Shakib’s movies more. Indian movies that are coming would sell more tickets if they were dubbed in Bengali. Eg: ‘Miss Lanka’, ‘Dur Desh’, ‘Jeona Saathi’ were dubbed and released in Bengali. Many viewers do not understand the Hindi language, so Hallmukhi is getting less.’
A few days ago, the Indian movie ‘Animal’ was released in Bangladesh. In this regard, Iftekhar Uddin Naushad said, “Animal” movie did not go well in Bangladesh. I also watched the movie on Netflix. The version of the movie that was played in our hall was not 40 minutes long (40 minutes were cut from the original movie). Netflix has full movies. There is a 40-minute scene inside the plane. Get married and go on honeymoon there. This scene shows only the body. The cinema looked awful. Liked on Netflix. The movie has a good message.’
