New Delhi: Puri Shankaracharya clarified that he will not participate in the dedication ceremony of Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Puri Shankaracharya pointed out that the dedication should be according to the ritual decision and the statue unveiling ceremony is not taking place. He said there is a limit to the interference of political leaders.

Other Shankaracharyas have also come forward stating that they will not participate in the Ram Temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya. Jyotir Math Shankaracharya had said that Shankaracharyas and priests of all the four mathas in the country will not participate in the function. In a video shared on the X platform, Jyotir Math Shankaracharya Avimukteswaranand Saraswati said that the decision taken by the four Shankaracharyas should not be considered as anti-Modi and that they did not want to be “anti-science”. The dedication ceremony takes place before the completion of the temple. Puri Shankaracharya also clarified that if the Prime Minister is doing everything, then what is the need of the priests and he is not going to see Modi performing idol worship.

The reason for not going to the ceremony was not because of any hatred or malice, but because it was Shankaracharya’s duty to follow the Shastravidhi and ensure that they were followed. Here scientific judgment is ignored. He said that the biggest problem is that the prana pratishtha is performed when the temple is incomplete. “If we say this, we will be called ‘anti-Modi’. What is anti-Modi here, he asked.
