Four individuals and three companies, including the world’s best cricketer Shakib Al Hasan, have been fined 1 crore 63 lakh taka for allegedly manipulating the shares of Paramount Insurance Company Limited listed in the capital market. Of this, Shakib Al Hasan has been fined 50 lakh taka.

This decision was taken at the 923rd emergency commission meeting held on Tuesday (September 24) under the chairmanship of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) Khandkar Rashed Maqsood.

It is mentioned in the notice, because of the violation of the securities law by manipulating the shares of Paramount Insurance Company Limited listed in the capital market. Tk 25 lakh to Abul Khair Hiroo, Tk 50 lakh to Shakib Al Hasan, Tk 75 lakh to Ishal Communication Limited, Tk 1 lakh to Monarch Mart Limited, Tk 10 lakh to Abul Kalam Matbar, Tk 1 lakh to Lava Electrodes Industries Limited and Md. Zaheed Kamal has been fined Tk 1 lakh.

Incidentally, the news of cricketer Shakib Al Hasan’s collusion with businessman Abul Khair Hiru was heard in the capital market for a long time. But the BSEC was not bringing him under penalty. The interim government took over after a change in political status in the anti-discrimination student movement. In view of this, the commission led by the new chairman of the restructured BSEC, Khandkar Rashid Maqsood, brought him under punishment.
