jpnn.comJAKARTA – Former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD also voiced his concerns regarding the results of the DPR Legislation which agreed to change the threshold requirements for regional election nominations from the party route to only apply to parties that do not have seats in the DPRD.

The DPR also agreed on the age limit regulation for regional head candidates referring to the Supreme Court’s decision, not the Constitutional Court’s.

In his official account on X, Mahfud wrote something addressed to political party leaders and members of the DPR.

“The Constitutional Court’s decision is an official interpretation of the constitution at the level of a law. Politics and scheming to gain a share of power are allowed and are indeed part of our goal of building an independent country,” Mahfud wrote as quoted on Thursday (22/8).

However, he said, there are principles of democracy and the constitution that govern political games. If you follow political games, it is very dangerous.

“It is very dangerous for Indonesia’s future if through procedural democracy (a conspiracy to win by relying on the number of forces only with tactical coalitions) anyone seizes the power pie by violating the constitution,” he said.

Mahfud also invited officials to share positions, but not by destroying the constitution.

“According to the constitution, you have the right to do and receive that, but, stay within the constitutional corridor so that Indonesia is safe,” he said.

Mahfud MD spoke out on the DPR’s decision to agree on the regulation on the age limit for regional head candidates referring to the Supreme Court’s decision, not the Constitutional Court’s.
