Sharjah; Sharjah police have arrested a mother who abandoned her two-month-old baby boy for hours. The action was taken on a complaint by the Center for the Protection of the Rights of the Child. The baby was abandoned in front of the establishment of a well-known voluntary organization in Sharjah. CID chief Colonel Bowlsod said the woman was arrested during a subsequent investigation.
The organization informed the police that a baby had been found abandoned. Police immediately rushed to the spot and launched an investigation. Police were able to detect a woman coming in with a baby and leaving the child on CCTV cameras in the area.
In the ensuing investigation, police found the mother in just five hours. Police said the woman was an Arab citizen. She told police that she became pregnant from an illicit affair and therefore abandoned the baby. They were handed over to the public prosecution.
The CID team had shifted the child to the hospital for medical examination. Authorities said the baby’s health was satisfactory.
