The Sharjah Investment Development Department (SHUROQ) has become the star of the ‘World Travel Marty’ by introducing sustainable tourism models that integrate development and nature conservation. The world’s leading tourism projects were presented and discussed at the fair, and Sharjah’s world-class responsible tourism projects based on cultural heritage and natural diversity were widely accepted.

The tourist destinations under Shurukh were displayed in the pavilion led by Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Authority. Shurukh also announced new tourism projects at the fair along with the currently operational projects.

Along with the views of Sharjah’s entertainment centers, which have caught the minds of expatriates and foreign tourists for their heritage, luxury facilities, natural diversity and architecture, Sharjah’s distinct sustainable development vision also caught the attention of visitors and experts at the fair. Possibilities of replicating such tourism models in many parts of the world and plans to exchange innovative ideas were discussed under the leadership of Shurukh representatives.

The Sharjah Pavilion also featured views of the newly built Al Hira Beach, the Meliha Archeology Center, a collection of historical sights and desert experiences, the city’s green Al Noor Island, Al Muntasa Park, and Khorfaqan Beach. The ‘House of Wisdom’, one of the best libraries and knowledge centers in the UAE, attracted the attention of the spectators at the Sharjah Pavilion.

Shurooq Acting CEO Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer said that Sharjah’s vision of developing the tourism sector in a way that does not cause any damage to the environment and biodiversity of the place where it stands, has received great acceptance in the fair. He also shared the hope that through such partnerships, Sharjah’s diverse sights will become more known, new opportunities will be created for those looking for investment opportunities, and thereby create employment opportunities.

London’s World Traverse Mart became the venue for the presentation of existing entertainment venues as well as the launch of Shurukh’s new projects. One of them is the new guest center ‘The Serai Wing – Bait Khalid Ibrahim’. A 19th-century coral merchant’s house will be converted into a hotel, restored with state-of-the-art facilities without losing its originality. The project, which is under construction, is located in the heritage conservation area known as the Heart of Sharjah.

At the fair, Shurooq announced that the ancient village of ‘Najd Al Maqsar’, overlooking the sea in the Khorfakan mountains, would also be made another host centre. The more than 100-year-old houses here will be converted into 13 luxury cottages with the same uniqueness. The Misc Group will be responsible for the implementation of the projects.
